This "Vincible" emblem is one of several designs in a series of mine I call "Ripped Visions." Each ripped vision is based on popular imagery and taken to be totally recreated into another meaning. This concept of redefining highly public visible images originates at least as far back as Andy Warhol's 1962 "Campbell's Soup Can" prints. However, in these modern days the youth of America is constantly bombarded by the media with senseless corporate advertising. Some young artists have reclaimed certain promoted commercial art further than Warhol did by transforming them into symbolic icons. This was a trend in the early 1990's within mostly the electronic dance sub-culture, and I considered myself to have been a part of this art movement.

Within the dance sub-culture many people experiment with and use mind-altering substances. In dance clubs and "raves" I witnessed plenty of unfortunate teenagers experiment and use various drugs irresponsibly because they considered themselves invincible. Some users can become so delusional they believe they can fly. The combination of these powers is of course reminiscent of the fictional hero "Superman." His symbol happens to be a giant letter "S" within an indestructible diamond. This reminded me further of the extremely well known Beatle's music band with their "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" song, which has "LSD" as its primary initials. LSD happens to be a hallucinogenic, which can cause a warped sense of reality, and it is quite popular within the dance scene. My logic involved selling this design on stickers and T-shirts because I thought it might influence comic book influenced kids to think twice about what they might be doing.
