This is one of the pages from the eigth issue of the "Urban Death Maze" 'zine distributed quarterly by the New York Bike Messenger Association to the messenger community in New York City. The publication ran for over two years and was produced by only myself and Jack Blackfelt with submitted art, photos, stories, articles, and poetry contributed by various other couriers.

At the Cycle Messenger World Championships there are skid competitions. Track bike riders without any brakes, except for their locking legs and fixed-geared rear wheels, ride incredibly fast up to a certain point before trying to lock their legs and skid as far as they can. A New York competitor, named Jason Gandy, won the 2000 CMWC skid competition in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and broke previous records by skidding 160 yards. I purposefully took the photo in the background of the page so it included an expanse of flat road space to emphasize the sense of distance Gandy was travelling. Along with the background photo I also shot the smaller photo in the corner and wrote the text for the article.
