This is the cover from the first issue of the "Urban Death Maze" 'zine distributed quarterly by the New York Bike Messenger Association to the messenger community in New York City. The publication ran for over two years and was produced by only myself and Jack Blackfelt with submitted art, photos, stories, articles, and poetry contributed by various other couriers.

The photo in the background, which I entitled "Tunnel Vision," was taken with some risk by me as I cycled in the middle of moving traffic. You might notice the subtle "KILLER" license plate of the station wagon in the photo. After taking the photo I digitally altered the original license plate because I wanted to convey the idea of any motor vehicle, including even an all-American family station wagon, being potentially responsible for the death of a cyclist or pedestrian.

Along with the background for the cover of Urban Death Maze, the photo was also exhibited with an illustraion of mine in the art show of the 2000 Cycle Messenger World Championships in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The 2000 CMWC was dedicated to a messenger from Chicago, who was run down and killed by a commuter in a sports utility vehicle. Later on the driver turned himself in after realizing his license plate was missing because it had been found under the body of the murdered courier.
