In 2002 I was contracted to work with a Japanese marketing company called Sakura International. During the six month contract I consulted Sakura in designing the "Raven Gear" line of clothing and accessories specifically created for bike messengers and urban cyclists. Along with these technical pants I also designed a pullover, a cycling jersey, a shirt, a face mask, gloves, hats, caps, and arm/leg warmers.

Some features of the Raven Gear pant system:

  • - Zippered removable lower pant legs
for below the knee knicker-style wearing.
  • - Adjustable elastic cord in all the hems below the knees.
  • - Oversized expanding cargo pockets
with zipper openings along the inside edge of the pockets.
  • - Reinforced ripstop material over the knees,
up along the inside of the legs, and on the seat of the pants.
  • - Hidden pockets across the knees for padding or stashing.
  • - Reflective strips along the sides of the knees
cover the velcro opening of the hidden pocket.
  • - Large stitched-in front and rear pockets.
  • - Reinforced belt loops positioned over the pocket openings.
  • - Duplicate slightly oversized waterproof pants...
same-style but different material and with a mesh lining.
