This logo evolved from a union between two symbols, the bicycle gear and the "Big Apple," which New York City is sometimes referred to. The manner I combined the two produced a design representative of cycle couriers in New York, and therefore the New York Bike Messenger Association. This is because the gear is taking a bite out of the Big Apple in order to feed itself, thus signifying the cycling work performed by a courier in order to put food on his or her family's table. The logo has been used on the NYBMA web site and has been printed on numerous NYBMA meeting & event promotions, as well as informational publications, such as the NYBMA's "Urban Death Maze" 'zine. It has also appeared on NYBMA merchandise, including membership patches, cycling caps, and T-shirts.
